July 5, 2013 - the day more than one technology at my disposal failed me for some unknown reason, and I don't know if the failures were linked in any sense. The Acer laptop computer had been running slower last week and I did not recognize this as a failure of Windows 7 to run programs efficiently such as Word 2007, Real Player or Internet Explorer. Then on Friday after I forced a shut down to happen faster the machine would not restart at all. A local computer store technician I consulted with about it on Monday claimed from the screen's startup repair message (and the fatal startup error blue screen I got on an earlier failed start attempt) that my hard drive was damaged and had to be replaced ($165 work I cannot afford for the forseeable future) rather than a less-expensive Windows 7 rebooting effort. On the same day I lost my laptop, my Vonage V-Portal box decided to malfunction and effectively stop working so I cannot use my landline phone until buying a new V-Portal for $80.
It sucks to be me these days.
